Get serious.

April 22, 2009

Well, a good inactive period since this blog’s inception. Well done me!

I have decided to start posting itnerviews that I have done on my own accord over the past few years on here. They never found a published home, mostly due to space and timeliness, but they are intriguing pieces nonetheless. So, I’ll put them up on here soon. In the interest of my own sanity, I’m also just going to review books, albums and films that I really have a lot to say about. BLAH BLAH BLAH… sorry, I’m not trying to write another mission statement.

Okay, okay. I’ll get to work. This is hopefully not going to be a pointless post of empty promises.

Well, here it is. No turning back now. I’m now a blogger. Part of the blogosphere. A practicer of the verb “blog”. All that ridiculousness.

The banner should read “News Fiction Poetry Film TV Books Records”, a la Creem Magazine in its glory days. Maybe it will soon. Either way, my blog is an attempt to track the various paths I find myself taking through books, music and film. Naturally, “News” and “TV” are sometimes inescapable beasts, but I will control myself with TV and current events commentary. Or at least try.

Anyway, this is supposed to be the mission statement, so let’s get down to it. I’m a 24-year-old writer in Edmonton, AB. I work in an independent movie store and a vinyl record store, leaving me with little but enriched free time. I’m not here to promote these businesses, no matter how great they may be, and I will try to keep this free of what is now sadly a bit of a cliche:  retail ennui.  (Again, this is not a guarantee.)

I am always fascinated by stories of how people came across a film, novel or album that they loved. The nature of my work, I devour records and movies and find more than enough in bookstores as far as literature is concerned. And they are all connected. Through recommendations, similar personnel, or just fall-into-lap randomness, these three forms are inextricably linked.

So, I aim to track my progression. Many things about these three pillars of art & culture fascinate me besides their journey to me, so my goal is to simply share it. And if nobody reads this, to simply document it.

This is moreso an excuse to talk about things that aren’t necessarily timely and new when the mood strikes me. I make no apprehensions about being a nerd, so I hope as much geeky fun takes place in reading this as it hopefully will in writing it.

All right. I think that covers me for ranting about anything I damnwell please. Haha!
